I'm a bit confused. Is the daughter wearing a skirt or shorts? It looks like a skirt, but they should really be shorts, since riding a horse in a skirt would be VERY uncomfortable on the thighs. Also, while women sometimes wore skirts that short in 1954, it was only in "fantasy" or "sexy" situations - not anything as normal and wholesome as exploring the woods.
